A florist's Valentine's week, without the phone tree
A two-shop florist took a third of its February orders by phone and lost some of them on sticky notes. We moved the site off Wix and built an order flow that knows how many roses are left.
This shows the kind of work we do. It is not a client engagement, and the business in it is invented.
- 0orders taken for stems that weren't in the cooler
- 1 screenfor phone, walk-in and web orders, where there used to be three places to check
- 6 daysfrom content freeze to launch, a fortnight before February
Where it started
The problem
Every February the phones started at seven in the morning. Two lines, one person on each, and a paper order book that was supposed to agree with the website. It usually didn't.
The Wix store sold arrangements the shop couldn't make. It had no idea the cooler was down to forty red stems, so it kept taking orders for dozens until somebody noticed and started ringing people back to apologize.
Delivery slots were worse. Customers picked windows the vans had already filled.
What changed
What we did
We rebuilt the site on Payload CMS with a small Next.js front end, and kept every product URL so the shop's search traffic came across with it.
Stock is counted in stems now, not arrangements. Each design knows its recipe, so when the cooler count drops, the designs that need red roses flip to sold out on their own while the rest keep selling.
Delivery windows are capped per van and per zone. Once the two-to-four run north of the river is full, nobody can book it.
Phone orders go into the same system through a stripped-down screen staff can use one-handed, receiver on their shoulder. The paper book retired itself.
